Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R, C, I – South Huntington) joined his Long Island colleagues in welcoming Suffolk County Police Officer Joseph Verdi to the Capitol February 24.
Verdi was in Albany to be honored for his valiant efforts to protect motorists from an alleged wrong-way drunk driver on Sunrise Highway during the early morning hours of January 28. Officer Verdi risked his own life, weaving through oncoming traffic and using his police cruiser to stop the alleged drunk driver in his tracks. Fortunately, Officer Verdi escaped serious injury after the head-on crash that followed.
