LUPINACCI INTERVIEWS BOARD OF REGENTS CANDIDATES

More than 30 candidates appeared before lawmakers during the course of two days.

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R, C, I – South Huntington) joined his colleagues on the Higher Education and Education committees on February 9 and 10 to interview candidates for an at-large position on the New York State Board of Regents.

“This is a significant moment for the future of education in New York State. With the upcoming change in leadership, there is an opportunity to make some changes in the way we educate our children,” Lupinacci said. “It is vitally important to interview every candidate and make the most informed decision possible for the future of our students and education professionals.”

The Board of Regents is responsible for supervising all educational activities within the state and presides over The University of the State of New York and the New York State Education Department. The Board is also tasked with appointing the Commissioner of Education, who becomes the president of The University of the State of New York.

Over the course of two days, lawmakers interviewed more than 30 candidates.

“In recent years, New York’s education policies have come under fire, so it is critical that we choose the right person for the job,” Lupinacci said. “It is an honor to be one of the representatives participating in this process, and is a responsibility I hold with in the highest regard.”
