LUPINACCI REACTS TO STATE OF STATE ADDRESS

A statement from Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington)

“Today’s State of the State Address left a lot to be desired, particularly when it comes to ethics reform. The Assembly majority failed to act on pension reform last year, and they have already voted against good government reforms this year. If Governor Cuomo is serious about cleaning up Albany, a good first step is convincing the Assembly majority to support meaningful ethics legislation.

“Governor Cuomo’s higher education proposals likewise missed the mark. It is troubling to think the Governor would rather offer free college courses to prisoners rather than hardworking, law-abiding New York students. We should be working toward making college tuition more affordable and creating more opportunities for everyone.

“Our public schools have been crippled by the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) for too long. The Governor’s lack of commitment to completely eradicating the GEA this year, which would restore valuable extra-curricular activities and staff to our schools, is deeply frustrating.”
