LUPINACCI WELCOMES LIBERTY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM STUDENTS TO CAPITOL

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci this week welcomed to Albany students from the Wyandanch School District.

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci (R, C, I – South Huntington) this week welcomed to Albany students from the Wyandanch School District who have benefited from the New York State Education Department’s Liberty Partnerships Program.

The dropout-prevention Liberty Partnership Program provides at-risk students in grades 5-12 additional resources to help them meet increasingly rigorous academic, social and behavioral standards, graduate from high school and succeed in college and in the workforce. The initiative was established in 1988.

According to a report prepared by Catalyst Research LLC, more than 11,500 at-risk middle and high school students received services through the Partnership during the 2014-2015 school year. More than 527,330 hours of support services, for an average of 46 hours per student, were provided. Of those hours, 173,000 hours – about 15 hours per student – were focused on academic immersion such as Common Core services and tutoring. Each student also received an average of 10 hours of case management.

Of those students, just 0.4 percent (42) dropped out of high school. Ninety-five percent either graduated from high school or were promoted, 86 percent had plans to enter college or the workforce and many of those college-bound graduates had plans to continue their education in New York State.

“The Liberty Partnership Program, which provides essential services to at-risk students, are valuable tools in ensuring students successfully complete their high school studies and advance to bigger and better things,” Lupinacci said. “It was especially gratifying to meet students who have benefitted from these services.”
