Man Drove Drunk With Girlfriend, Children In Car: Suffolk Police

A man was arrested and charged with a DWI while driving his girlfriend and young children on Wednesday morning, Suffolk police say.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY—A man allegedly drove drunk with his girlfriend and three minors in the car in Huntington Station on Wednesday, Suffolk police say.

Miguel Cruz was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue southbound on New York Avenue near Depot Road when a highway patrol officer stopped him for speeding and failing to maintain his lane around 12:45 a.m., police say. His 2-year-old daughter, 4-year-old son, 16-year-old brother and girlfriend Katherine Diaz, 25, were in the car.

Cruz, 25, of Huntington Station, was arrested and charged with an aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15-years-old or younger, also referred to as Leandra's Law.

The children were released to Diaz's custody.

Cruz was held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 19.
