Motorcyclist Dies After Colliding With Uber: Police

The motorcyclist drove through a red light before fatally crashing into a car, police said.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — A motorcyclist was killed after he collided with a car early Sunday in Huntington Station, police said.

Gerson Mendez-Cruz, 20, of Greenlawn, was driving a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Jericho Turnpike when he drove through a red light at the intersection of Melville Road and collided with an Uber around 3:30 a.m., police said. The Uber, a 2018 Ford, had been travelling northbound on Melville Road, police said.

Mendez-Cruz was transported to Huntington Hospital in serious condition, where he was pronounced dead, police stated via release at 8:30 a.m.

A 22-year-old woman, a passenger in the Uber, was transported to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Uber driver, Felix Perez, 24, of Levittown, was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
