Motorcyclist Seriously Injured After Collision With Car: Police

The motorcyclist crossed over the divider before colliding with the car driver, police said.

CENTERPORT, NY — A motorcyclist was seriously injured after a collision on Sunday evening in Centerport, Suffolk Police said.

Robert Gaydos, 37, of Huntington Station, was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Centershore Road, near East Main Street, when police say he apparently crossed over the lane divider and collided with a southbound 2003 Ford pickup truck at 6:15 p.m.

Gaydos was airlifted by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, police said. The driver of the pickup truck, George Pryor, 16, of Centerport, was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

The Centerport Fire Department responded with two engines, two ambulances, heavy rescue truck, paramedic unit and fire police, the department said. Roughly 25 firefighters and emergency medical personnel were on the scene and were under the direction of assistant chiefs Andrew Heglund, Kyle McLaughlin and Deputy Chief Medical Dr. Jack Geffken. Firefighters also secured the landing zone for the Suffolk Police Medivac helicopter at the nearby Chalet Motor Inn.
