New Elementary School Principal Approved At Cold Spring Harbor
The new principal of Goosehill Primary School is set to start in July. Here is a little more about her.

COLD SPRING HARBOR, NY — Christina Alicea-Cosme was approved to become the next principal of Goosehill Primary School, the Cold Spring Harbor School District announced. Alicea-Cosme is set to assume the role on July 1.
“We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Alicea-Cosme to our school district and community,” Board of Education President Amelia W. Brogan said via news release. “We are confident her knowledge and professional experience will be an asset to Goosehill Primary School.”
For the past 18 years, Alicea-Cosme has served as an educator and administrator in the New York City Public Schools and as an administrator in Valley Stream #30 School District. She began her career as a kindergarten teacher and served in this role for 12 years. Her administrative career began in 2016 at The Children’s Lab School 343 in Queens. The Children’s Lab School opened in 2014 where she was a founding member of the administrative team, assisting with building curriculum, implementing a full rollout of SEL responsive classrooms, and creating a system for technology implementation.

Alicea-Cosme is fully trained in Responsive Classroom and believes in the importance of a social-emotional program that is embedded into the everyday curriculum to empower early childhood students to build independence and success.
For the past three years, she has served as an assistant principal in the Valley Stream #30 School District. During that time, she embraced various roles including serving as the districtwide support administrator for the balanced literacy framework, grades pre- K-2 supervisor for the Shaw Avenue School, and districtwide kindergarten administrative partner.

She has extensive expertise in the balanced literacy framework and has experience working with Teachers College Reading and Writing Institute, similar to the Cold Spring Harbor School District literacy programs.
In her six years as an assistant principal, she served as New York state testing coordinator, technology point person, teacher evaluator, hiring committee member and school safety committee member.

Alicea-Cosme holds a bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education from Brooklyn College, a master of science in education degree in teaching students with disabilities in early childhood and an advanced certificate in school building leadership and school district leadership from LIU Brooklyn.
She is a lifelong learner who enjoys supporting staff with new and innovative best practices to provide children with strategies that help them develop the social, emotional and cognitive skills needed to become lifelong learners. This summer, she is set to begin working on her doctoral studies in educational policy and leadership K-12 at Hofstra University.
