PHOTOS: Officer Delivers Healthy Baby Girl Roadside in Dix Hills
A Suffolk County officer stopped to see if a car needed assistance to find a man and his wife in active labor early Wednesday morning.

A Suffolk County Police officer helped a woman deliver a healthy baby girl in a vehicle on the side of the road in Dix Hills early Wednesday morning.
Second Precinct Patrol Officer Joseph Ferro was on patrol when he stopped on the side of Deer Park Avenue, just south of Jericho Turnpike, to see if a driver needed assistance at 2:08 a.m.

The driver told the officer that his 32-year-old wife was in active labor, police said.
Officer Gerard Maxim and Officer Jonathan Murray responded to the location and just a few minutes later, Officer Murray, who is also a member of the Plainview Fire Department, helped the mother deliver a healthy baby girl at 2:21 a.m.

Huntington Community First Aid Squad arrived to the scene as the baby was being born and helped with the cutting of the cord.
The HCFAS responders then transported the Dix Hills couple and their baby to Huntington Hospital.
