The Schlitt Law Firm has appointed Michael Butler of Baldwin and Kiran Mathew of East Meadow to positions as summer legal interns.

The Schlitt Law Firm, a personal injury and medical practice law firm based in Huntington, New York has appointed Michael Butler of Baldwin and Kiran Mathew of East Meadow to positions as summer legal interns. Mr. Butler is a rising senior at Harvard University and expects to graduate with a degree in government and Mr. Mathew is a rising senior at Holy Cross who is a biology pre-med major with a minor in computer science. They both expect to graduate in May 2017.
Carol L. Schlitt, the founding partner of the Schlitt Law Firm, said, “These young men are prime examples of what we seek in our interns: they are both smart, able to frame problems, can write well, are hungry to learn and work hard. They have both already made contributions.”
Michael Butler said, “I’m thrilled with this internship because I am considering entering the law field and this gives me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience. I especially appreciate the learning opportunities that we have every day in the office.”

Asked to comment on the internship, Kiran Mathew said, “This position is ideal for me. I am unsure of my direction after college and wanted to explore the law field. Working here I learn about the law, the legal system and the way that Mark and Carol devote themselves to serving their clients.”
The Schlitt Firm internship is a paid position that places an emphasis on real work and a learning experience. “We believe that too many employers take advantage of students with unpaid internships,” says Ms. Schlitt. In addition to the wage, the internship includes extensive educational components such as exposure to all areas of the practice, opportunities to go to court and lessons on doing legal research. “We want Michael and Kiran to know what it means to be a lawyer advocating for clients,” said Carol Schlitt. “We will know we succeeded if Kiran and Michael go on to have meaningful careers where they also give back to the community.”
