St. Anthony's High School student receives community service award

Gabriella Civello, resident of Melville, junior at St. Anthony’s High School in Huntington, was awarded a certificate of recognition for her 5 years of service feeding the needy each Thanksgiving Day.  Gabriella has been a participant since its inception.  Since 2009, this young lady, in conjunction with the Cheesecake Factory and the Salvation Army have served the impoverished long island community in Freeport and Hempstead, a complete traditional turkey dinner.   Representatives from the Cheesecake Factory and the Salvation Army awarded Gabriella with this certificate of recognition at the Salvation Army location in Freeport this past Thanksgiving, November 28, 2013.

This former SAHS Junior Varsity basketball player is an active, contributing member of the school’s campus ministry as a retreat leader of the Clare Society.  In addition to reaching out to her school and local communities, Gabriella’s service has spanned globally.  This past summer she worked in an orphanage in Costa Rica.  Not only did she get to play and interact with the children ranging in ages from 5 months to 9 years, she worked to help improve the aesthetics of the facility by painting, designing murals for the children as well as working on various minor repairs.
