1. Suffolk County has been federally approved for a disaster center after the remnants of Hurricane Ida roared through the island, hitting Lloyd Harbor tremendously hard. The Suffolk County DRC opened yesterday afternoon and will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Rose Caracappa Senior Center, 739 NY-25A, Mt. Sinai. Suffolk County’s DRC operated with a mobile center before moving into its fixed location. (Long Island Business News)
2. Northport musicians petition Newsday to reinstate band festival after it was cancelled for the second year in a row, citing COVID-19 safety concerns. The Northport group created a petition that read, “This year it is more than possible and safe for it to happen when indoor stadiums are filling with thousands of people every weekend and high school football teams are traveling again." The petition has over 1,300 signatures, with the event at Hofstra, which usually brings in bands from all over Long Island. (Huntington Now)
3. Gabby Petito's boyfriend named a person of interest after her disappearance during a road trip. In a case that has all of Long Island on edge, Brian Laundrie returned home with LI native Petito's white van, but without his girlfriend. The North Port Police Department in Florida announced Wednesday that Laundrie is now a person of interest in Petito's disappearance. (ABC)
