Town Of Huntington Coronavirus: Huntington Station Hits 1K Cases

TOWN OF HUNTINGTON, NY — The number of people with the new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, hit 3,861 in the Town of Huntington as of Monday afternoon. There are now 33,140 confirmed cases in Suffolk County. The county death toll hit 1,102.

New York State's stay-at-home order was extended to May 15 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The social distancing measure, which keeps all nonessential workers home and school buildings closed, has helped slow the rate that the virus spreads, Cuomo said.

However, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday gave details about restarting the state's economy, saying manufacturing and construction will lead its reopening.

Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone, on Monday, explained how Suffolk can start to reopen once it's safe to do so, saying officials are having discussions every day with businesses and different sectors.

TESTING

• Suffolk County opened a COVID-19 testing facility at Huntington High School, at 188 Oakwood Road, Huntington. Testing will be by appointment only. For those with a fever of 100.5 or higher, severe shortness of breath and a persistent cough, they must call 1-845-553-8030 for an appointment.
• New York State has opened a Mobile Testing facility by appointment only at Stony Brook University. Call to request an appointment at 1-888-364-3065.

SCHOOLS

All state schools will be closed until May 15, as Cuomo's stay-at-home extension includes educational facilities. The same goes for non-essential businesses.

On Sunday, Cuomo sounded less optimistic that schools could return around mid-May, noting it would have to come in conjunction with a large-scale business reopening.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

Select marinas in the Town of Huntington were allowed to reopen, Town of Huntington officials said. These include Mill Dam Ramp in Huntington, Cold Spring Harbor/Billy Joel Park Ramp in Cold Spring Harbor, Soundview Ramp in Northport and Halesite Marina. All other ramps will open when beach parking lots are declared open, as the ramps are only accessible via the parking lots.

Parks and Recreation facility closures include Crab Meadow Golf Course, at 220 Waterside Road, Northport; Dix Hills Golf Course, at 575 Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills; and all basketball courts, bocce courts, pickle ball courts, playgrounds, tennis courts, baseball fields, beach parking lots and skate parks, the Town announced April 5. Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci asked the public to report observed overcrowding or violations of social distancing recommendations at Town parks.

Town of Huntington officials announced a $1,000 fine would be issued for any violations of social distancing guidelines.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled. Cuomo signed an executive order to reopen marriage bureaus across the state and give clerks the authority to perform marriage ceremonies via video conferences.

The Town of Huntington Senior Center at 423 Park Ave., Huntington, and Senior Division facilities were closed indefinitely in March.
