Town Of Huntington To Host Wellness Walk For Recovery

It marks the town's first annual Wellness Walk and is meant to destigmatize the disease of addiction and promote treatment.

HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington's 1st Annual Wellness Walk for Recovery is scheduled for Saturday, according to a news release. The town and its Opioid & Addiction Task Force are set to host the walk.

The walk is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Heckscher Park, on NY-25A/Prime Avenue in Huntington.

The event is co-sponsored by Supervisor Ed Smyth and Councilwoman Joan Cergol in commemoration of National Recovery Month, which began in 1989 as a way to destigmatize the disease of addiction, promote evidence-based treatment, and celebrate the tens of millions of Americans in recovery.

The walk will step off at approximately 11:15 a.m. at the Prime Avenue entrance of Heckscher Park and will be followed by a recovery fair featuring music, food, and information on resources for addiction recovery.

A local Friends of the Poor Walk is also slated for Saturday, scheduled to start at 9 a.m. in Huntington. The walk is meant to help Huntingtonians struggling with the increased costs of everything.
