Walt Whitman Girls Basketball Advances To 4th Straight Suffolk County Championship

The Wildcats defeated Copiague 51-38 in the Section XI semifinals and will face William Floyd Friday at Stony Brook University.

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY — The Walt Whitman High School girls' varsity basketball team is heading back to the Suffolk County championship.

The Wildcats secured their spot in the Section XI Class AAA finals with a 51-38 home win over Copiague in the semifinal round, improving their record to 20-1 this season.

The victory marks the fourth straight Suffolk County Championship appearance for Walt Whitman.

Jaz Julien led the Wildcats with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, powering the team on both ends of the court.

Madi Richter added 17 points, while Paige Hiller chipped in 10 points in the win.

Hannah Creighton also contributed with a 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter, giving Whitman a five-point lead early in the game.

Defensively, Bella Fiorelli continued to play a key role for the Wildcats, applying tight pressure and holding Copiague’s point guard below her scoring average.

The top-seeded Wildcats will face No. 2 William Floyd in the Section XI Class AAA County Championship Game at Stony Brook University on Friday at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the championship game are required and can be purchased online.

The program has enjoyed historic success in recent years, winning its first Suffolk County title in 2023 and capturing another championship in 2024.

With another strong season, the Wildcats now have the opportunity to compete for a third county title in four years.
