About a dozen Walt Whitman High School students competed against nearly 500 high school students in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens and Staten Island to win the first ever Spark! Challenge.
Through the Spark! Challenge, students participated in a video contest that highlighted their experience at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center.
The challenge involved about 30 teams of North Shore-LIJ staff members from across the health system that hosted students through the Hospital for a Day program. Students were able to see the various jobs offered at these health care facilities.

“The Spark! Challenge not only sparked an interest in healthcare careers for the students, but it also reignited our staff’s passion for what they do, which was amazing to witness,” said Joseph Moscola, North Shore-LIJ’s chief human resources officer, in a press release.
The winning students received $3,000 for their school.
