The fourth graders are traveling to Legislative offices Tuesday with hopes of improving an intersection they feel is dangerous.

Washington Primary students are taking buses to Suffolk County Legislative offices Tuesday to discuss their concerns regarding the lack of a traffic signal at the intersection of Whitson Road and Park Avenue in Huntington Station.

- The intersection has caused a number of vehicle accidents over the years.
- Washington Primary School sits about 1,000 feet from the intersection. It is difficult for school buses and vehicles to safely travel north on Park Avenue after heading east on Whitson Road due to Park Avenue’s heavy traffic.
- The school bus drivers have even noted the dangers of this intersection. Many of them use alternate and longer routes to avoid the hazardous intersection.
The Leadership Team will then present signed petitions supporting the change and persuasive essays written by students to the Legislature.
Huntington Coach Bus Company, which has also been directly affected by the absence of a traffic signal at this intersection, provided the Leadership Team with two buses as transportation to the meeting.
