Arrest Made in Teen's Stabbing Death in Mastic
A 19-year-old is charged with manslaughter.

UPDATE Sunday 7 a.m.: Homicide Squad detectives arrested Michael Dennis, 19, of Mastic, on Saturday and charged him with manslaughter in the death Trevor Bender. Dennis was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.

A 17-year-old is dead following a stabbing in Mastic Friday evening, police said.

According to police, Trevor Bender, of Mastic, was a passenger in a car that was stuck in traffic on Mastic Road when he and the driver became involved in a verbal dispute with a group standing at the corner of Mastic Road and Moriches Avenue at about 5:10 p.m.
Bender and the 18-year-old driver got out of the car and approached the group who were known to them, police said. During the dispute, a male stabbed Bender in the chest, police said.

The assailant fled the scene on foot and Bender was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
