Watch: Huntington Holds 20th Anniversary Of 9/11 Memorial Service
Town officials and families of residents who died in the attacks recently gathered at the 9/11 Memorial in Heckscher Park.
HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington recently held a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony to honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks 20 years ago. Town of Huntington officials and families of town residents who died in the attacks gathered at the 9/11 Memorial in Heckscher Park for the ceremony.
The colors were presented by Veterans Advisory Board member Albert "Butch" Jensen, sergeant at arms. The "Pledge of Allegiance" was then delivered by Veterans Advisory Board members. The National Anthem was performed by Michaela Doppico and Josephine Sullivan of the Old First Presbyterian Church of Huntington with Musical Director Ken Friese, followed by an invocation by Reverend Matthew Means.

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci, Councilman Mark Cuthbertson, Councilman Eugene Cook, Councilwoman Joan Cergol, and Deputy Supervisor Councilman Ed Smyth read the names of the 43 residents and first responders who perished in the terror attacks as members of the Veterans Advisory Board placed roses. Assistant Chief Terrence Farrell, Jr. of the Dix Hills Fire Department delivered a bell salute for each victim. Brueggemann Funeral Home in East Northport donated roses for the ceremony.
A moment of silence followed, then "Taps" was played by Chairman Bill Ober of the Veterans Advisory Board and Tom Butterfield. "God Bless America" was then performed by singers from the Old First Presbyterian Church, and John Martin, a piper from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, played "Amazing Grace." Rabbi Yaakov Raskin of the Chabad of Huntington Village offered a benediction and the colors were retired.

Town Clerk Andrew Raia, Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman and Superintendent of Highways Kevin S. Orelli also joined Town officials at the ceremony, along with State Senator Jim Gaughran, Legislator William Spencer, and TJ Hatter representing New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
The United States Coast Guard; Elwood/Commack VFW Post #9263; Nathan Hale VFW Post #1469; Greenlawn American Legion Post #1244; Huntington American Legion Post #360; Combat Infantrymens Association; Jewish War Veterans Post #488; Suffolk County Police Department; and Huntington Community First Aid Squad were all represented at the ceremony.
