World Trade Center Beam to Serve as 9/11 Memorial in Cold Spring Harbor

The beam is believed to be one of the last remaining pieces of steel from the World Trade Center.

The Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department recently picked up one of the last remaining pieces of steel from the World Trade Center.

The steel beam is 17-feet long, four-feet wide, weighs more than 18,000 pounds and is believed to have belonged to Tower One of the World Trade Center.

Cold Spring Harbor FD will place the beam in the park across from the firehouse on Route 25A. It will serve as a memorial for those who lost their lives on 9-11.

The Port Authority of NY and NJ made the steel available to the fire department. Department picked up the flag-draped beam from a Port Authority storage facility at JFK Airport and escorted the beam to Huntington with help from the Port Authority Police, New York City Police, Nassau County and Suffolk County Police Highway Patrols.

Firefighters uncovered and unloaded the beam into a temporary storage facility in Huntington while a bagpipe played "Amazing Grace."
