MacArthur Airport Makes USA Today's List Of Best Small Airports

LONG ISLAND, NY — Long Island's MacArthur Airport officially made the USA Today's list of the top 10 best small airports in the U.S. The media company announced the Best Readers’ Choice Awards winners on Friday, naming the local airport number 6 in the Best Small Airport category, which includes all airports that serve less than 10 million customers per year.

"We are so grateful for the support we receive from this community," Commissioner of Aviation Shelley LaRose-Arken said. "It was an honor to be nationally recognized by an independent panel of travel experts, who nominated MacArthur Airport among 19 others last December."

The winning facilities were described as being "smaller, friendlier airports" that excel with their commercial flight offerings, easy access, and amenities," according to the contest website. MacArthur was described on the website as an alternative for airline passengers "wishing to avoid the big, crowded New York area airports (JFK and LaGuardia)."

2. T.F. Green Airport
3. Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport
4. Piedmont Triad International Airport
5. Bangor International Airport
6. Long Island MacArthur Airport
7. Indianapolis International Airport
8. Paine Field
9. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport
10. Long Beach Airport

MacArthur was among the 20 airports that were initially nominated. The list included 12 airports larger than MacArthur Airport in terms of passengers and 10 with more social media followers.
