• Days After 1st Human Case Of West Nile Virus, 6 Mosquito Samples Test Positive In Brookhaven: Officials (patch.com) — West Nile virus has been detected in multiple mosquito samples across Suffolk County, including in West Islip and Islip, following the season's first human case. Health officials urge residents, especially those over 50 or immunocompromised, to avoid mosquito bites and report dead birds or mosquito problems. Several mosquito species and locations are affected, indicating ongoing local transmission risks.
