UPDATE: Islip High School Reopens Tuesday After COVID-19 Case

The school was closed Monday after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.

ISLIP, NY — Islip High School reopened on Tuesday after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus recently. On Monday, Superintendent Ellen Semel announced that the school was closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Semel stated that the employee was last in the building on Wednesday but out of an abundance of caution, decided to close the high school for in-person instruction. Late Monday evening, Semel sent a follow-up stating that the school was deemed safe to reopen Tuesday.

"The district has been in contact with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and has been informed that the contact tracing protocols are underway," she stated. "Later today, the Department of Health will be reaching out to all families with students that have been deemed close contacts of the individual who tested positive to provide further instructions."
