1. 2 killed in plane crash in upstate New York; FAA, NTSB investigating (democratandchronicle.com) — Two people died Sunday when a small plane that took off from Ithaca Airport crashed in nearby Enfield, prompting an investigation by the FAA and NTSB. The 1977 Lake LA-4-200 went down off North Applegate Road after witnesses reported apparent mechanical trouble. Local responders from Tompkins County, Enfield, Ithaca Fire, and airport crews assisted, and no one on the ground was hurt.

Theatre Administration program cut for future students (theithacan.org) — Ithaca College is eliminating its Theatre Administration major for future students, while allowing current majors to finish their degrees. Students describe feeling blindsided and worry how duties at Dillingham Center will shift as leadership steers interested students toward the broader Creative Industries program instead.

In 'Checán Stereo,' Ancient Objects Hear Their Mother Language Again (cornellsun.com) — A new installation at Cornell's Johnson Museum in Ithaca invites you to experience ancient Peruvian Moche ceramics "listening" to their ancestral Muchik language through a striking sound-and-light setup. Artist Fernando "Huanchaco" Gutierrez and curator Hugo C. Ikehara-Tsukayama use replicas, recordings, and video to question how museums treat sacred objects. The exhibition runs through Feb. 7, 2027, giving locals plenty of time to visit.

4. New York Gas Prices Climb to $4.21 Ahead of Labor Day (fingerlakesdailynews.com) — Drivers in Ithaca are paying about $4.22 a gallon for regular gas as New York's statewide average climbs to $4.21 ahead of Labor Day. Prices here and across Western and Central New York are well above last year's levels, even as strong holiday travel demand continues.

5. Pressure mounts for Kathy Hochul to sign data center moratorium bill (ithacavoice.org) — Local advocates gathered on Cayuga Lake's shore in Lansing to press Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign a bill tightening rules on large data centers, including the proposed TeraWulf project at the former Cayuga Power Plant. Speakers, including Assemblymember Anna Kelles, warned about energy, water, and ratepayer impacts while noting Hochul's existing one-year moratorium may not stop the project. The governor has until Dec. 31 to act on the bill.

- Murphy is a 2 year old, FULLY INDOOR, microchipped cat who escaped from a home that is not his permanent residence on August 11.
He has been spotted 5-6 times in the areas of Asbury Drive, West Meadow St., and most recently near 2 Horvath Drive in Ithaca (Lansing School… (Nextdoor Brookhaven) - Folks, I just got hit with this scam: https://www.uscourts.gov/court-programs/jury-service/juror-scams. I have a JD, and they still managed to keep me on the phone for about five minutes. They threw a lot of legal jargon at me and they knew my name
