On 70th anniversary of the Nazi execution of Lutheran Theologian Bonhoeffer a celebration of his life and legacy at the Museum of American Armor

Observing anniversary of the execution of Lutheran Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer, an opponent of the Nazi regime

Seventy years after Lutheran Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed by the Nazis just two weeks prior to his concentration camp being liberated by Allied forces, theMuseum of American Armor, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage Village Restorationwill conduct an interfaith tribute ceremony celebrating his life and legacy on Thursday, April 9th, at 10:30 a.m. led The Rev. Jonathan Linman, Ph.D. of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

Pastor Bonhoeffer was a leading theologian and staunch anti-Nazi dissident, unflinching in his resistance to the Nazi regime, including his opposition to Hitler’s euthanasia program and the Holocaust. Arrested in 1943 by the Gestapo, he was imprisoned for 18 months before being transferred to the Flossenburg concentration camp where, after being allegedly associated with the plot to assassinate Hitler, he was briefly tried and executed on April 9, 1945.
