Nissequogue Park Gets $1M Donation To Fix Historic Admin Building
The recent donation, made by Charles Reichert, was the largest private donation the park has received to date.

KINGS PARK, NY - The Nissequogue River State Park recently received its largest private donation to date to renovate the historic administration building.
Earlier this month, 83-year-old Charles Reichert, owner of several IGA supermarkets, presented a $1 million donation from his family foundation for the renovations.
The building, which was previously used to be a hospital for World War I veterans before becoming part of the Kings Park Psychiatric Center and then finally becoming part of the park, has been through a lot over the years, Newsday reports.

The million-dollar donation will go towards fixing the infrastructure and making improvements to the building including putting in an elevator, according to the report.
"I pictured this park as the Central Park of Long Island," Reichert told Newsday. "But you drive by on a beautiful summer day, there’s nobody here."
