Special Olympics Athletes Show Others They Can BExtraordinary at the I Can BExtraordinary Fashion Show at Smith Haven Mall
Special Event Taking Place in Center Court
Special Olympics New York and the Time to Play Foundation, Inc. invite you to join them at the second I CAN BExtraordinary® Fashion Show at the Smith Haven Mall on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 1 pm to 3 pm.
This event will help to provide year-round sports training and competition in over 22 Olympic-style sports for more than 67,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities living in New York, giving them continuing opportunities at no cost to them or their families.
Special Olympics athletes were chosen to be the models for the I CAN BExtraordinary® Fashion show because they are inspirational and demonstrate achievement. “These Athletes do not let obstacles stop them. They are a true testament on how everyone has the ability to BExtraordinary®”, said Doreen Guma, Chairperson of the Time to Play Foundation, Inc., a not- for-profit 501c3 foundation with the mission and purpose to enrich the lives of others through programs, public awareness outreach activities, events and learning opportunities that further the concept of enjoying life.

The 10 athletes, 4 men and 6 women, will be modeling spring fashions and active wear from Uniqlo and Dicks Sporting Goods. They will also receive pampering to prepare them for their runway experience with donated hair styling by Cactus Salon, as well as BExtraordinary® makeup and unisex fragrance supplied by the Time to Play Foundation, Inc. BExtraordinary® is a reminder and reinforcement for self-empowerment, self-esteem, self-love, self-worth and self-confidence inspiring everyone to BExtraordinary®. “With the increasing numbers of people with depression or adopting self-destructive behaviors in our society, the message that people CAN BExtraordinary® is more important to spread than ever,” said Doreen.
“The event will not only be empowering, but incredible fun for those who participate. Jay Letterman from My Country 96.1 is the emcee. There will be line dancing, a live performance by Katie Zimmer, recently named by Newsday as one of the 50 most talented Long Islanders. Katie will be accompanied by Chris Jaeger on keyboard. And, there will be other activities to spread good cheer,” said Diane Colonna, Regional vice President of Development, Special Olympics.
