State Police Warning LI Residents Of Phone Scam
Scammers are contacting residents pretending to be calling from the State Police station. Find out how you can avoid being scammed.
LONG ISLAND, NY - New York State Police are warning Long Island residents of a phone scam involving people identifying themselves as police and requesting personal information.
According to police, the number the scammers are calling from shows on caller ID as that of a State Police station, although the calls are not actually coming from the station.
"We can confirm this is a scam, and add the State Police would never ask for this information over the phone," police wrote in a press release. "We are investigating the matter."

Police recommend that residents not to share any personal information over the phone unless they are 100 percent sure of the origin of the call.
Residents are also advised to verify using security questions and passwords that only the vendor would know.
