17 Of Mamaroneck's Best And Brightest Won 22 Awards At The 2022 WESEF

Five of the students earned two awards each at the prestigious and highly competitive Regeneron-sponsored science fair.

MAMARONECK, NY — Mamaroneck students showed up in force at the 2022 Regeneron Westchester Science & Engineering Fair (WESEF) and walked away with an impressive roll of awards.

The fair serves area high school students who have conducted original research projects in Westchester, Putnam and Sullivan Counties and are interested in sharing their research, competing for awards and a chance to attend the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Atlanta, from May 8 - 13.

Mamaroneck High School winners:

2nd Place Awards were sponsored by Con Edison. Winners received a silver medal and $100.

  • Behavioral and Social Sciences: Caroline Prevost
  • Behavioral and Social Sciences: Liv Bobby
  • Computational Bio/Bioinformatics: Daniella Uvaldo
  • Medicine and Health Sciences: Tista Goswami

3rd Place Awards were sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation and winners received a medallion and $75.

  • Cellular and Molecular Biology: Julia Zimmerman
  • Cellular and Molecular Biology: Sasha Bilik
  • Engineering: Jerome Orans
  • Neuroscience: Oskar Smeal

4th Place Awards were sponsored by the Westchester Academy of Medicine and winners received a medallion and $50.

Assocation for Women Geoscientists Award certificates were given to female students whose project exemplified high standards of innovativeness and scientific excellence in the geosciences.

  • Environmental Sciences: Camille Gowda
  • Physics and Astronomy: Jade Decker

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Taking the Pulse of the Planet Award certificates were given to projects whose research emphasize NOAA's mission of science, service and stewardship in climate, weather, oceans and coasts.

  • Physics and Astronomy: Jade Decker

U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize certificates were awarded to outstanding water science projects. Winners were also nominated to enter the state water prize competition.

  • Environmental Sciences: Camille Gowda
  • Environmental Sciences: Anabelle Hicks

Innovations in Biological Sciences Research Awards of $25 donated by WESEF Alumni were awarded to innovative projects in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, medicine and health, microbiology, computational biology/bioinformatics and neuroscience.

  • Medicine and Health Sciences: Rebecca Herzberg

Future of Medicine Awards of $50 donated by the Westchester Academy of Medicine were awarded to top projects in medicine & health, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology and neuroscience research.

  • Medicine and Health Sciences: Tista Goswami

Teatown Young Environmentalist Awards of $50 sponsored by Teatown Lake Reservation were given to projects that aim to protect natural habitats and/or ecosystems.

  • Animal Sciences: Kendall Yoon
  • Environmental Sciences: Anabelle Hicks

Today's Students, Tomorrow's Engineers Awards of $50 sponsored by Engineering Tomorrow were presented to students who exhibit the enthusiasm, desire and intellect to study engineering as evidenced by their project and presentation. They were deemed to have the aptitude to use their talents and gifts to engineer a better tomorrow.
