Coalition to Call for Clean Water Infrastructure Projects in Mamaroneck, Surrounding Communities
Local and state officials, environmental leaders and construction industry advocates say an increase is funding is essential.
MAMARONECK, NY — Municipal officials, construction industry advocates, environmental leaders and state legislators will meet at the Hommocks Conservation area in Mamaroneck Wednesday, Nov. 16 to call attention to critically needed clean water infrastructure projects in Mamaroneck and surrounding communities.
Organizers said the local officials will call on the state to increase funding and extend its successful statewide clean water grants program as part of the 2017-18 state budget.
Attending the 10:30 a.m. event will be Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, Assemblyman Steve Otis, state Senator George Latimer, Ross Pepe of the Construction Industry Council and Edward Doyle, president of the Building & Construction Trades Council of Westchester and Putnam.

Highlighted will be the health and environmental benefits of these key infrastructure investments, as well as the creation of thousands of new jobs.
With many projects costing millions of dollars, these public works maintenance and improvement programs cannot be fully funded by the municipalities themselves, yet they are vital to ensuring that wastewater is properly treated and managed in order to protect streams and the Long Island Sound.

Findings from the recently released report on Clean Water Infrastructure Needs for Communities in Westchester and the Hudson Valley published by the Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley, Inc., and the Construction Advancement Institute of Westchester and Mid-Hudson, Inc. will also be discussed. The Water Infrastructure Improvement program was established in 2015 and currently will provide $425 million in grants to municipalities from 2015-2017.
