Cancellieri was brought up in the Bronx, N.Y. and lived in Manhattan, but has resided in Yonkers for the past 24 years. Art was always a favorite subject for her, beginning in elementary and continuing through high school. She comes from a creative family. Her dad liked to draw, and was employed as a jeweler for Harry Winston. My mother's palette was her home. It had to look just so. Her brother, Michael Cancellieri, is also an artist.
In 1980 Ms. Cancellieri started taking art classes at the New School in Greenwich Village in Manhattan. While there she took a class with Professor Donald Stacy called “Painting and Drawing from the Imagination”. After the first class she was hooked, and continued to paint and draw at his loft, Stacy Studios in Union Square, for the next 32 years! Although Mr. Stacy is now deceased, sheI still rents space at the studio and continue to paint there.
