Film Screening: Maestra by Catherine Murphy at Sarah Lawrence College
The Sarah Lawrence College Art of Teaching Program presents THE FALL/SPRING 2015-2016 Film Series: Maestra - by Catherine Murphy.

Location: Library Meeting Room, Second Floor.
March 3rd, 2016 from 6:3pm.
About the Film: In 1961, Cuba aimed to eradicate illiteracy across the island in one year. The government sent 250,000 volunteers across the island to teach reading and writing in rural communities. Almost half of these volunteer teachers were under 18 and more than half were women. Narrated by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker’65, MAESRA (Spanish for teacher) is a 33-minute documentary. The film explores the experiences of nine women, who, as young girls, taught as part the Cuban Literacy Campaign of 1961.
