Larchmont Library Welcomes THE PLAYWRIGHTS VOICE

The Larchmont Pubic Library welcomes playwright Katharine Long to lead a six week workshop on the craft of play writing.

The Larchmont Pubic Library welcomes playwright Katharine Long to lead a six week workshop on the craft of playwriting. Katharine Long is a seasoned, published playwright and will take attendees through the process of creating a play, providing the foundation for developing the craft of playwriting.

Time: Thursdays at 6:45pm, beginning April 7 and continuing through May 12

Location: Larchmont Public Library. Space is limited, registration required. Must commit to registering for all six sessions.

The six-week workshop will cover such issues as how to develop characters, how to write a monologue for those characters, how draft a one-minute play, how to develop engaging dialogue between characters, how to create a setting whether current or in the past or future, dealing with obstacles, and much, much more. Because the workshop is progressive where each week’s exercises building on those from previous sessions, it is important that attendees make the commitment to attend all six sessions when registering.

Katharine Long is a playwright member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre where she also served as Literary Manager. Her plays: GRYZK, SEDALIA RUN, ARIEL BRIGHT, TWO PART HARMONY and UNSEEN FRIENDS, received their first productions there and have since been produced both nationally and internationally. CASTING CORDELIA, her most recent one-act play, will be published in the 2015 edition of The Westchester Review. Samuel French, Broadway Play Publishing and Applause Books have published her work and ARIEL BRIGHT appeared in Ramon Delgado’s collection of Best Short Plays.

Katharine Long is a Teaching Artist with the Manhattan Theatre Club and has taught for The Westchester Sandbox Theatre, Young Playwrights, Gotham Writer’s Workshop, The Ensemble Studio Theatre Institute, Playwright’s Horizons, Marymount Manhattan College, Larchmont/Mamaroneck Continuing Education and the 52nd Street Project. She holds a B.A. in Drama from Kenyon College.
