Mamaroneck-Student Aid Fund Welcomes Four New Board Members
Nancy Pierson, Joyce Callahan, Ann Katzenstein and Lynn Zerbib Join the Student Aid Fund helping provide scholarships to MHS students
Larchmont, NY -- Former School Board President Nancy Pierson along with longtime Larchmont residents, Joyce Callahan, Ann Katzenstein and Lynn Rosenstrach Zerbib have joined the board of the Mamaroneck-Larchmont Student Aid Fund (SAF). The SAF is dedicated to helping students at Mamaroneck High School afford college by providing need-based scholarships.
Nancy Pierson has lived in Larchmont since 1993. She and her husband, Frank, raised three daughters here, all Mamaroneck High School graduates. Ms. Pierson has been a volunteer in the schools including as president of the MHS PTSA, SEPTA and PT Council. She served on the Board of Education from 2007-2016 including as President. "One of the major goals of the School Board is to have our students career- and college-ready," says Ms. Pierson. "But achieving that goal doesn't mean that all our students will be able to go to college. Finances can play a larger role in a student's college decision than any other factor. I'm excited to be working with SAF and our generous community to give students wth financial needs a hand up."
Joyce Callahan grew up in Mamaroneck and she, her father and two children all graduated from MHS. Ms. Callahan has been the Village of Larchmont Recreation Director for the past 12 years. She has also served as the Chatsworth PTA treasurer, the Hommocks PTA president and on the boards of St. Augustine's Religious School and the Semi- Royal Shakespeare Company. "As someone with strong ties to the community, being part of an organization that gives directly to local high school students really appealed to me. Now that my children are college age, I see how college has helped them grow as individuals and I would like to help others have the the same opportunities,"says Ms. Callahan.

Ms. Katzenstein is an executive recruiter for an educational publishing company and has served on the School Board Selection Committee and the board of the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation. "I've always believed that education and college are necessary stepping stones for a fulfilling and successful life," says Ms. Katzenstein. "I'm honored to be part of an organization that helps young adults in our community achieve this goal."
Lynn Zerbib grew up in Larchmont and returned with her husband, Nick, in 2001 to raise their family. They have children at Chatsworth, Hommocks and Mamaroneck High School. She is a college counselor at Breakaway Prep and volunteers at "Let's Get Ready," a program that provides low-income high school students with college admissions support, and at the White Plains Youth Groups Summer Career Academy. "I am passionate about providing college access to those who do not have the means, support systems or knowledge that so many of us take for granted," states Ms. Zerbib. "I think I provide a unique perspective to the Student Aid fund because of my work in college counseling and my experience as a volunteer in this area."

According to SAF president Amy Guenzl, "Last year, the SAF gave scholarships to 10 percent of the MHS senior class. This year, we are planning to give out 49 scholarships at our awards ceremony on June 13. In order to continue to fund this many students, we rely on the generosity of the community as well as the hard work of our board members on fundraising, raising awareness of our organization and working with the students who receive our awards. We are thrilled to have Nancy, Joyce, Ann and Lynn join our mission to help as many students as possible achieve their dreams of a college education."
