State Senate OKs Westchester Towns, Villages Hotel Room Tax

The bills still need the approval of the governor.

The New York State Senate passed a series of bills early Saturday morning that would let local municipalities charge up to a 3 percent hotel occupancy tax.

Governor Andrew Cuomo now gets to either approve or veto the bills, something that he has argued against in the past, according to an article at lohud.com.

In December, Cuomo vetoed a “bed tax” that would have been in addition to the county’s 3-percent occupancy tax and sales tax.

The municipalities affected were the towns of Greenburgh, Harrison and North Castle and the villages of Mamaroneck, Port Chester, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Irvington, Ardsley, Elmsford, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson and Tuckahoe.
