East Broadway Elementary School
- An East Broadway student donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit that donates hairpieces to children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

- Students and staff at Abbey Lane Elementary School packed their unopened Halloween candy and sent it to troops overseas. They packed over 500 bags in approximately 30 minutes.
Salk Middle School
- Twelve members of the Salk Middle School seventh-grade band were selected to participate in the 9th annual Hofstra University Honors Band Festival. Their names are listed in the photo caption.
- Junior Leaders at Salk Middle School participated in a drug and alcohol community awareness project at the Cherrywood Shopping Plaza in Wantagh. They created posters to promote the school’s Red Ribbon campaign, which highlights the dangers of destructive decisions.
Division Avenue High School

- Sophomores Megan Oliveri and Lyndsey Petrofsky have been selected to represent Division Avenue High School at the Hugh O’Brian (HOBY) Youth Leadership Conference this coming June. The organization’s purpose is to bring together high school sophomores who have demonstrated leadership ability and to allow them to interact and to discuss issues with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education and other professions.
MacArthur High School
- Performances of Oklahoma! will take place on November 17 at 7:30 p.m. and November 18 and 19 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door. Renaissance cardholders should bring their cards for discounted admission to the musical. Please contact the Music Department for further information at (516) 520-8450, extension 844.
- 55 MacArthur High School peer leaders recently visited and read to East Broadway Elementary students. The seniors-only service club aims to ease the middle school-to-high school transition for ninth graders.
ESL Family Night
- Salk Middle School recently held ESL Family Night, which hosted families of ESL students from Salk, MacArthur High School, Northside Elementary, Summit Lane Elementary and Abbey Lane Elementary. The evening event provided ESL families with pertinent educational information.
