UPDATE: Pedestrian Hit by Car in Levittown Dies of Injuries

The 79-year-old man from Levittown was struck on Hempstead Turnpike Saturday afternoon.

UPDATE: Police identified the man hit by the car as Frank Ilardi, of Levittown. Illardi died of his injuries at Nassau University Medical Center at 10 p.m. Saturday, police said.

A man is in critical condition in the hospital after being struck by a car in Levittown Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to police, the 79-year-old man was attempting to cross Hempstead Turnpike from south to north near Grassy Lane when he was hit by a car that was heading east on Hempstead Turnpike.

The man, who suffered broken bones and head trauma, was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver, an 85-year-old man, was not injured and police said there is no “apparent criminality” in the crash.

Police did not identify either man. Brake and safety inspections were performed at the scene.
