Snowstorm Acts Of Kindness: Man Shovels FDNY First Responders' Driveway

Mark Barber took it upon himself to shovel out Sabrina Dalbarry's driveway when her husband was working during this weekend's snow storm.

LEVITTOWN, NY. — As Sabrina Dalbarry sat at home Sunday night, she didn't know her neighbor, Mark Barber, had taken it upon himself to clear the driveway outside the Branch Lane house where she lives with her husband and their two young sons.

Dalbarry and her family were hardly alone in having a considerable amount of snow to clear. Over a foot of snow fell on much of Long Island, and people from communities across the island stepped up to shovel driveways, clear cars off roadways and clear the way for people to get to their families.

Dalbarry and her husband are both FDNY first responders, and her husband was mandated Sunday due to the heavy snowfall. The gesture from Barber, who even made sure that the path from their doorway to the driveway was clean, was moving for the mother of two.

"It brought tears to my eyes," Dalbarry said. "That kind of kindness, done quietly and selflessly, is something special. My boys heard him outside and rushed to the door to thank him."

As for her own thanks, Dalbarry said she's hopeful that others are reminded of the kindness that still exists on Long Island.

"While my husband was out there saving lives, our incredible neighbor made sure we were safe. Just wanted to remind the world that genuine, good people still exist," Dalbarry said.
