Persian or Persian-style rugs are a beautiful accent for any home. They add color, comfort and style and if they are well-taken care of, they can last for years and years.
Sunlight - Sunlight will cause a rug to fade over time. It’s a good idea to keep Persian rugs out of direct sunlight, but if that isn’t possible, change the position of the rug from time to time to keep the sun from lightening only one area. If the rug is in direct sunlight, rotate it monthly. If it’s in indirect light, rotate it quarterly.

Vacuuming - If you have a valuable or antique rug, be sure to use a vacuum cleaner that has no beater bar or rotating bristles, as these can damage a fine rug. Carefully vacuum both sides of the rug and don’t set the vacuum pressure too high. Don’t vacuum the fringe. Never shake or beat a Persian rug as this can stress the knots and damage the fibers. When possible turn rug face yarn down and vacuum back first to loosen the dry particulates out. A rug will hold on to a lot of dry soil so be prepared to sweep up after this tip.
Stains - If you own a very fine or antique rug, never use anything other than water to remove stains. For the average Persian rug, a solution of water, white vinegar and a little mild soap can be used. Don’t scrub or rub use clean white rags to blot up the moisture.

Foot Traffic - If you have a large rug that sees a lot of traffic in one area, rotate the rug periodically or rearrange the furniture to minimize the damage to any single area.
