Tired of the Drug Epidemic Sweeping Our Streets? Help Keep Lindenhurst Clean

Building Lindenhurst Community Coalition: Helping a community substance abuse problem as a community.

Drugs are everywhere. . . They are in our Town. . . They are in are our schools. . . Effecting our community and our children. . . So, it is time for us as a community to come together and fight back. . .

I have done extensive research, starting with the Suffolk County Prevention Resource Center. They are dedicated to strengthening communities and empowering lives. They are a non-profit resource center committed to building and supporting healthy drug-free communities through public education, professional training and the provision of effective tools for those working to prevent drug and alcohol abuse.

The Suffolk County Prevention Resource Center is funded by New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (NYS OASAS), Suffolk County Department of Health/Division of Community Mental Hygiene Services, and South Oaks Hospital.

After additional research, it came to my attention that our surrounding communities, such as Babylon, West Babylon, Wyandanch, etc., have come together as a community and formed coalitions in the fight against substance abuse.

In order to form a coalition, there is an organization called CADCA – Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America

What are community coalitions?

Community coalitions are comprised of parents, teachers, law enforcement, businesses, religious leaders, health providers and other community activists who are mobilizing at the local level -- and nationally under the CADCA umbrella -- to make their communities safer, healthier and drug-free.

How do coalitions make a difference in communities?

Coalition building is a smart strategy that promotes coordination and collaboration and makes efficient use of limited community resources. By connecting multiple sectors of the community in a comprehensive approach, community coalitions are achieving real outcomes.

I submitted a request to CADCA for an application to form Lindenhurst Coalition and they have e-mailed me the application, instructions and a handbook on building a coaltion from the ground-up and believe me, it is not easy.
