Dangerous, Illegal, Toxic, and Frightening

Yes, I'm talking about ILLEGAL FIREWORKS. Last year, SCPD posted a ZERO TOLERANCE on illegal fireworks, yet, Lindenhurst was a war zone.

NEW YORK STATE HAS A BAN ON ALL FIREWORKS. The First Precinct just advised that ALL fireworks are ILLEGAL except for sparklers, but I know of a 7 year old girl whose nylon dress caught fire from a sparkler, and it took her 7 days before she finally died from the 2nd & 3rd degree burns to over 80 percent of her body.

First Precinct will issue summonses to all people possessing and shooting off fireworks, and they will have to appear in First District Court in Central Islip to pay fines. SCPD will also be making arrests for illegal possession.

All fireworks will also be confiscated. Or will they? It was not the case in 2013 or 2014 even though SCPD had posted a zero tolerance warning.

Fireworks are classified as hazardous substances under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA). Some fireworks, such as illegal firecracker-type devices (M-80s, quarter sticks) and professional display fireworks should never be used or handled by consumers, due to the risk of serious injury and death.

Other cities post signs forbidding fire works. Yet here on Long Island, I have not seen any even though they are illegal. Soldiers coming back from war in Iraq, Afghanistan, those who fought in Desert Storm, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, etc. and have suffered from PTSD may be adversely affected by the M-80’s and other loud noise makers. Wildlife and domestic animals are terrified of the loud decibels of noise that can damage hearing especially in small animals recently born, young children, the elderly. There are so many toxins in fireworks, that can lodge inside lungs, pollute waterways, and contaminate our air ~ especially those made in China that there’s not enough room to list them.

There’s so many ways to celebrate the 4th of July that are fun, happy, and healthier than breaking the law.
