LI Nonprofit Launches New Program To Thank Essential Workers

The Long Island-based group has found a way to help local businesses and essential workers during the coronavirus crisis.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A local nonprofit has found a way to assist both Long Island essential workers and businesses amid the coronavirus crisis. For the past six years, the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying has been working to create bully-free communities in the area. While they're still working to serve that mission, they also found a way to give back to Long Island residents who are struggling during this pandemic.

That's why the organization launched a new program which will use $5,000 from their budget to give thanks to local essential workers. Residents can nominate an essential worker on their website here. The group will then enter them into a random drawing of 200 recipients to receive a $25 gift card to a locally owned Long Island restaurant.

"Naturally, we wish we could thank everyone, however we are trying to do our small part to thank those we can, while helping to support many in the restaurant industry that have helped our organization over the years," founder Joe Salamone said. "Just trying to do the best we can to help small businesses who are always there when we need them as well as those on the front lines."
