Lindenhurst Chamber Expo Does Brisk Business

Chamber of Commerce hosts 15th annual Business Expo at Chateau La Mer.

Given the current state of the economy and the tough climate in which small, local businesses operate these days, Wednesday's Lindenhurst Chamber Of Commerce at  was particularly timely, according to Chamber officials.

“This expo is more important than ever, with the economy being the way it is,” said Chamber President , as the Chamber board was putting the finishing touches on the evening, which is just one of several events the Chamber organizes to provide a stage for local business.

There‘s also the annual , and a networking party at the beach, for instance.

But Wednesday night's 15th annual expo served to show support of the local Lindenhurst businesses that set up at the approximately 70 tables - provided to businesses as part of Chamber membership - to display their wares, share their expertise with the public and network with each other and the community all evening.

“I’m here to show the village’s support for the Chamber, and for the Expo,” noted Village Trustee Mike Lavorata. “It’s a great evening.”

It kicked off with a networking party, replete with dinner, at 5 p.m. for the vendors to share business acumen with each other. The purpose, according to Chamber Board Member Sandy Buttacy, is to also give business owners a chance to socialize in an informal setting.

At 6:30 p.m. the doors opened to the public for the next few hours. Hosted by Chateau the evening featured waiters meandering through the crowd with finger foods, a full-service bar and plenty of raffles, free gifts and promotional giveaways.

And throughout the evening a DJ from B-103 wandered through the catering hall interviewing participants and visitors.

“If it’s business, it’s here,” intoned the radio DJ enthusiastically.

Indeed, visitors swapped cards with exhibitors, and potential customers stopped at tables to learn about a variety of services right in their own back yard in Lindenhurst - from self-defense courses and the latest in cellphone technologies to demolition services.

The varied array of businesses also included retail operations, health care services, copying centers, diet centers, as well as banking and lending institutions - and even the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Among the many businesses was Valley Goldmine, an organization that does fundraisers and gold parties. “We just started this business,” said Jerold Bernstein. “We’re hitting all the expos. We have to get out name out there, and this is the way to do it.”

Many Lindenhurst service organizations - such as the Lindenhurst Rotary Club and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1421 - were also on hand to raise awareness and show support.

Also on hand were representatives of the . “We’re here every year,“ said Library Director Peter Ward. “This is a great way for us to get the word out about the library.”

The turnout was substantial, despite the weather turning dark and rainy, and visitor response was enthusiastic.

How enthusiastic? Judging by the length of the line at one of the most popular stops - the table set up by Lifeiswhatyoubakeit.com, which was offering free mini cupcakes - very.
