Lindenhurst Man Caused Drunk Crash With Child In Car: Police

Police say the man was incoherent and unable to stand when they arrived at the scene.

A Lindenhurst man was arrested in Garden City Saturday night after police say he was involved in a car crash while drunk, and also had a child in his car.

According to police, officers responded to the Roosevelt Field Mall for a crash at 9:27 p.m. When they arrived, police say they found Thomas Dalton, 48, of Buffalo Avenue, Lindenhurst, next to a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee. Police say Dalton was incoherent and unable to stand.

Dalton was placed under arrest without incident. An adult woman and her 11-year-old daughter were in the car during the crash. Dalton was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. The passengers were not injured.

Dalton is charged with DWAI drugs, aggravated DWI (Leandra's Law) and endangering the welfare of a child. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
