Long Island Woman Tried To Kill Her Baby: Police

Police say she wrapped her newborn baby in a plastic bag and attempted to put the baby in a garbage bin outside.

CORAM, NY – A 26-year-old Long Island woman has been arrested for trying to kill her newborn baby boy last month, Suffolk Police said Thursday night.

According to police, Felicia Squillace gave birth at her home located on Homestead Drive in Coram on April 27 at around 1:30 p.m.

Squillace wrapped the baby boy in a plastic bag and attempted to put the baby in a garbage bin outside, police said. Two residents of the home heard the baby cry and they took the bag from Squillace, police said.

The residents removed the baby and called police.

Following the birth, Squillace was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for medical treatment and evaluation. She was then transferred to Brunswick Hospital Center, a psychiatric hospital in Amityville. When she was released from the hospital Thursday, she was arrested by detectives from the Special Victim's Section. police said.

The baby was transported to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson for evaluation and has since been released to foster care.

Squillace will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
