Man With BAC 3 Times Legal Limit Crashes Car With Child: Cops

The 39-year-old crashed into a guardrail on the Southern State Parkway while driving with an 11-year-old child, police say.

NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY - A West Babylon man crashed his car into a guardrail while driving with a blood alcohol content more than three times the legal limit with an 11-year-old child in the car on Sunday afternoon, according to State Police.

A state trooper responded to the crash on the Southern State Parkway near Route 110 and found that Karl Lottman, 39, was driving while drunk with the child in the car, police said. No injuries were reported.

Lottman submitted to a chemical test that showed he had a BAC level of .27 percent, police said. The legal limit is .08.

He was charged with felony aggravated DWI and related charges, police said. He was held for arraignment at Nassau County District Court on Monday.

The child was turned over to the custody of his mother.
