Nine Hospitalized After 10-Car Crash

The crash occurred after a 76-year-old ran a red light. He may have suffered a medical event, police say.

AMITYVILLE, NY - Nine people were hospitalized after a 10-vehicle crash in North Amityville on Tuesday afternoon, according to Suffolk Police.

At 12:05 p.m. a 76-year-old man, who was driving a Lexus sedan and may have suffered a medical event, sped up to a red light on Route 110 at Bentley Road and caused the crash.

The nine people were transported with non-life threatening injuries to three hospitals - Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage and Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

No arrests were made. The road was closed for three hours.
