News Nearby: Bicyclist Found Seriously Injured in Dix Hills

A 69-year-old Deer Park man who had been riding his bicycle in Dix Hills was found lying in a roadway Wednesday afternoon, according to Suffolk Police. 

Paul Rovelli was semi-conscious when a motorist discovered him lying next to a bicycle on Carlls Straight Path, near Villadom Court, around 1:20 p.m, police said.

Public Drunkenness Outlawed Throughout Babylon Town

Don't hit the taps too hard next time you're out for a drink nearby – the Town of Babylon has outlawed intoxication in public or at cabarets or dance halls.

The law, passed unanimously at Babylon Town Hall on Thursday, made appearing intoxicated in public a misdemeanor offense throughout the town's borders, including the villages of Amityville, Babylon and Lindenhurst.

Former West Islip Resident Edith Mellino, 69, Dies

Funeral services were held Thursday for Edith Mellino, a retired West Islip school secretary, who died on Nov. 11, 2013, according to an obituary notice at legacy.com.

The Brooklyn born native was the beloved spouse of Anthony, mother of Anthony Mellino (Michelle) and Brad Mellino, beloved sister to brother Joseph Noble, and beloved sister to sisters Margaret Santomartino, Patricia Reuter and Geraldine Martocci. She was the beloved grandmother of Ryan and Hannah Mellino.
