Photos: Lindenhurst Oktoberfest Celebrates Village's German Heritage

The annual Oktoberfest features food, fun, family and friends.

Instead of cars going up and down the main street , Wellwood Avenue was filled with residents celebrating the German heritage of Lindenhurst at Oktobertfest.

It was the culmination of an annual three-day that was filled with rides, games, vendors, food and fun.

On and the fun was contained on a mid-way along Hoffman Avenue. Then on October 2 the it spread out up and down Wellwood, with a plethora of German food and entertainment taking center stage at Village Square in the heart of town.

A Polka band was setting the rhythm with historic German songs for those enjoying the Beer Garden in the square. Bratwurst, potato pancakes, hot dogs and hamburgers were being 's Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1421 at the  parking lot.

The had a booth filled with homemade cakes, breads and cookies. It was manned by many from the society, including Jacqueline Milton, Karen Drago, Gloria Sheahan, Terri Hearny, Rita Gardell, Ann Marie Perullo, Diane Brennan, Dot DeLisa, Fran Schneider and Laura Eastby.

The ladies gave Jill Eastby, a second grader at , a special mention since she was "a big help" setting it up the booth, which also featured ietms for sale such as dish towels and hot pads made by the Society's seamstress Dolores Calomino.

Proceeds will be used towards plants, planters and Christmas decoration along Wellwood, according to the Society's Gloria Sheahan.

Mary Frenna and Jacqueline Milton, who's also the president-elect for the Lindenhurst Rotary Club, which sponsored this year's annual three-day Oktoberfest, were all smiles while working at .

"It's a great turn out! Streets are busy with people. That means the vendors are happy!" Milton said.
