Police ID Woman Killed After Being Struck By Car In Copiague
The woman was in the parking lot when she was hit by a car after the driver mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.

COPIAGUE, NY - Suffolk Police have identified the pedestrian killed after she was struck by a car in a parking lot in Copiague on Saturday evening.
According to police, the deceased was identified as 55-year-old Valentyna Todorovych, of Lindenhurst.
Todorovych was walking in a parking lot on 870 Merrick Road, when she was struck by a 2001 Honda Civic that was backing out of a parking space.

The driver stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake, striking her at 4:05 p.m. before damaging three other parked cars.

Several people lifted the vehicle off of Todorovych before emergency service personnel arrived on scene.

She was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip by Amityville Fire Department Ambulance where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The car was impounded for a safety check.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
